FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What Is This Web Site About?
This site aims to assemble in one spot as much information about the writing community in Rochester as is publicly available. Rochester is a city rich in writers and in resources for writers and for people to whom writing matters. But information about those resources is scattered. We want to bring it together.
Does This Site Really Cover Everything?
No site can completely cover everything about writing in a community the size of Rochester. Also, things change and need to be updated. And there are writers and groups who prefer to remain private. We respect that.
But this site does want to be as comprehensive as possible, within those limits. So if there's a book store or a writing resource you think should be on this site, and it isn't, let us know.
I'm A Writer. Can I Get Listed?
Just send us the information you want us to put up. Remember, however, that there's a strict format. Send us:
- Your name or the name of your group or organization
- One paragraph of description
- Contact information (phone, email, web, blog -- all optional)
There's a catch, too. To be listed as a writer, you have to have been published. It can be short fiction, poetry, or a magazine article. Even a single newspaper or online publication is enough. But simply aspiring to be a writer, by itself, isn't enough to be listed here as one -- though we wish you luck with that aspiration.
Can I Be Listed In More Than One Category?
Yes. If you make a living as a tech writer, say, but write children's books on the side, you can get a listing in both sections. Just ask for it.
Can I Have My Name Or Organization Removed?
Certainly. Just drop us a note.
How Much Does A Listing Cost?
Nothing. It's free.
Why Are Some Sections Headed By A Review?
They're not reviews so much as unofficial pointers to things that really should not be missed. People don't know the considerable literary richness of this city. A collection of bare links won't change that all by themselves. I thought I'd add a comment or two about the highlights of the writing community. But opinions expressed are entirely my own.
And Who Exactly Are You?
I'm David Pascal. I'm one of the writers in this community -- also, by profession, a copywriter and marketing consultant. I designed, host, and administer and maintain this web site. You can find out more about me at www.davidpascal.com.
Do You Post Literary Work By Local Writers Too?
No. But if you have material online elsewhere, or if you have a web site of your own with samples of your work, you can link to it from your personal listing.
Do You Critique Manuscripts?
No. Writing In Rochester isn't a writing group or service, just an informational resource. You can take a writing class or join the appropriate writers group or critique service and ask them to do it. You can even start up a critique group of your own through meetup.com.
I Have A Question And It's Not Listed Here.
Good heavens! How could we have missed it? Well, if you have a question that isn't here, go to our contact page and send it to us. We'll respond.
